It’s easy to think fragile when we think of newborns, but don’t let the cuteness fool you. Strong is the only way I can describe baby Oliver.
3 days after his birth day, this sweet baby underwent open heart surgery to correct Transposition of the Great Arteries (TGA) and came through like a champ. The day before his surgery, I had the opportunity to document a special kind of Fresh 48 photography session in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston.
Being in the presence of such love, strength and hope was an incredible experience. Even with so much unknown, baby Oliver’s family embraced an unwavering faith that their little heart warrior’s journey would be a happy one; and happy it is. He’s thriving at home with little more than a few extra doctors’ appointments separating his routine from that of other babies.

During Oliver’s hospital stay, his parents were welcomed at the Atlanta Ronald McDonald House and didn’t have to travel far to be with him. Of their experience, Oliver’s mama had this to say,
“The Ronald McDonald House was a LIFE SAVER! We were so overwhelmed with gratitude for everything they provide. Every night volunteers cook dinner for everyone, the amenities are are amazing and the convenience of having a place to sleep less than 5 minutes away from you child is the only way I could sleep at night.”
Since 1979, the Atlanta Ronald McDonald House has supported more than 48,000 families, offering parents and caregivers a place to stay close to their children during medical treatments and extended hospital stays. You can learn more about the organization here.
